Definition   

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in repairing roofs and installing new roofs. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Reads work orders and plans type of repair to be used.

Estimates and orders materials.

Repairs roofs by sealing leaks or installing new roofing.

Seals water leaks in foundations.

Uses tools common to the roofing trade.

Caulks windows or otherwise seals windows, doors, building joints, etc.

Cleans and repairs gutters and drains.

Inspects roofs repaired by contract.

Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to perceive spatial relationships.

Ability to attend to visual details.

Ability to make precise arm/hand positioning movements where strength and speed are minimized.

Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Vocational school certificate in Carpentry or Roofing; OR completion of carpentry or roofing apprenticeship; plus ten months experience as a roofer.
