Definition
Employees in this class receive general supervision. Work performed in providing coordinative and semi-skilled technical efforts in the area of graphic art, writing, and broadcasting through various media and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates advertising schedule and communicates with media to resolve all forms of problems, including technical, that may arise.
Composes written articles and blurbs, prepares news releases with close direction and review from graphic artists, writers, etc.
Works closely with graphic artists or professionals to develop brochures, articles, etc.
Works closely with producers of events to obtain information concerning those events.
Arranges needed coverage of special events for publicity purposes, such as photographers, newspaper and other media coverage.
Organizes mass mailings of brochures.
May serve as photographer if needed.
May provide assistance by maintaining advertising schedule, files of all publications, cost and budget information, etc.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of principles and techniques related to the layout and design of commercial art, and knowledge of graphic presentation techniques.
Knowledge of basics relating to photography, news writing, and brochure writing.
Knowledge of basic advertising techniques, and knowledge of audiences, markets, etc.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and convincingly.
Ability to communicate effectively with printers, newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with students, faculty, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from standard high school and two to four years experience or education in the publicity/advertising field providing exposure to graphic artistry, writing, and/or photography.
