Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in designing, constructing, and installing museum exhibits. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Selects information for exhibits.
Fabricates models such as arrowheads, pottery, plants, life-size and miniature human figures, etc.
Cuts and carves wood, plastic and stone.
Paints and stains materials.
Assembles items by welding, gluing, pegging, etc.
Draws background scenery on panels.
Prepares script for exhibit case.
Repairs and replaces broken or damaged items.
Arranges and rearranges exhibit materials.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of archaeological field work.
Ability to express ideas in writing.
Ability to attend to details.
Ability to work independently without supervision.
Artistic ability and skill.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Anthropology; museum training or experience in Archeology.
