Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in photographic services, processing film, and preparing prints and/or slides. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Photographs persons, sporting events, charts, graphs, art work, etc.
Determines what equipment and techniques to use.
Arranges lights, screens, backdrops, etc. to achieve desired results.
Mixes chemical solution for developing prints and slides.
Processes film, adjusts color balance, and examines negatives.
Prepares promotional and instructional films, making suggestions and discussing desired finished project with customers.
Mixes voice and music into aesthetically pleasing balance.
Matches audio with video and edits as needed.
Performs preventive maintenance by greasing, oiling and cleaning, and by replacing springs, valves, screws, etc.
May compile supply list and submit bids.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of principles and techniques of still and action photography.
Knowledge of film processing.
Skill in preparation and operation of photographic equipment.
Skill in film processing.
Ability to deal with a variety of people.
Knowledge of the requirements for positions supervised.
Ability to attend to details.
Skill in manipulation of numbers in mathematical problems.
Ability to organize own work.
Ability to work independently without close supervision.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Bachelor's degree in Photography/Cinematography; five years experience as photographer/ cinematographer; or vocational school diploma in photography/cinematography plus one year experience; or similar experience.
