Definition 

Employees in this class are under close supervision. Work performed assisting a semi-skilled worker in a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and masonry; performing related work as required. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Assisting semi-skilled Maintenance Utility Worker by helping to remove, replace, or repair light fixtures, switches, and wall plugs that are simple in nature.

Assisting a semi-skilled Maintenance Utility Worker by helping unstop drain with plunger.

Assisting a semi-skilled Maintenance Utility Worker by helping in simple replacement of plumbing parts and fixtures.

Performs a variety of custodial tasks in the maintenance area and other facilities. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance and construction.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Ability to carry out simple oral instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Completion of the tenth grade.
