Definition   

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in cleaning and maintaining assigned areas; set-up, break-down, and clean-up for projects and special events; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Sweeps, mops, and buffs stairs, corridors and floors.

Vacuums carpets.

Washes windows, polishes furniture, and cleans woodwork.

Picks up paper and debris on ground.

Empties trash cans and cleans containers.

Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets.

Makes minor repairs to building.

Cleans bathroom walls, floors and fixtures and replenishes bathroom supplies.

Performs set-up and clean-up duties for projects and events.

Performs set-ups and tear-downs for events in athletic facilities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.

Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in custodial and minor maintenance work.

Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets.

Ability to operate a forklift in a safe manner.

Ability to follow simple instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Successful completion of the eighth grade; two years custodial or maintenance operation experience.
