Definition 

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in operating mail insert machines, labeling machine, and electric folding machine, and performing duties of Mail Clerk. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Operates mail inserting machine by positioning envelopes, adjusting blades, setting switches, loading items, and checking operation.

Sets up and runs labeling machine by making machine adjustments, loading material for production, etc.

Operates electric folding machine.

Performs duties of Mail Clerk.

Trains Mailing Service Machine Operator trainee.

Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to read.

Ability to attend to details.

Skill in sorting written materials.

Ability to count.

Willingness to do simple tasks for long periods of time.

Ability to discriminate visually.

Knowledge of mailroom machinery.

Skill in operating mailroom machinery.

Skill in the operation of common motor vehicles. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; plus two years experience operating inserting machine and Cheshire labeling machine. Valid driver's license preferred.
