Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in the supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses; performing non-professional nursing duties and performing other work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assigns and supervises work related to administering nursing care to patients including routine medications and simple treatments as ordered.
Oversees the recording of observations of symptoms, reactions, care and treatment given.
Instructs new employees in established routines and procedures used in clinics/infirmaries.
Plans the flow of work and initiates procedures in accordance with established plans and procedures.
Coordinates the ordering and storing of medical supplies and drugs.
Coordinates the maintenance of medical equipment assigned to nursing services.
Performs routine nursing duties of a non-professional nature.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of nursing.
Knowledge of medical equipment normally assigned to nursing services.
Ability to effectively evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and convincingly.
Ability to supervise and provide for basic nursing care.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with patients and other employees.
Ability to effectively act in a lead capacity regarding employees of lower classification.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Licensed as a Practical Nurse in Tennessee. Experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in a lead capacity.
