Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in serving music library patrons, maintaining music library records, ensuring that music library materials are properly arranged, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Shelves new scores and recordings and periodically checks existing materials.
Selects, orders, and catalogs new recordings upon approval of supervisor.
Catalogs and shelves tapes of student and faculty recitals.
Maintains listening facilities by making sure equipment is in good working condition.
Provides accurate, relevant responses to users' informational and recreational music library needs.
Checks music material in and out, inspects music material, assesses fines, and maintains records on music material in circulation.
Schedules and directs student workers.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of music library materials, equipment and bibliographic tools.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate oral information in a courteous manner.
Ability to file and type efficiently.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in general clerical work, preferably in a library environment.
