Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in a lead worker capacity and coordinates activities of workers in absence of Manager.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises other workers in supervisor's absence.
Supervises distribution of on-campus communications.
Opens and operates services window.
Maintains log for all express mail, certified mail, COD's and insured mail.
Balances money order drawer, postage sales drawer, and bulk mail.
Sorts, distributes and forwards incoming U.S. mail.
Assigns and enters postal box numbers into computer.
Operates or supervises the operation of postage meter, electric accounting system, meter accounts, and balances meter charges daily and monthly.
Meters mail and forwards nondeliverable mail.
Supervises student employees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to accurately operate a postal machine, money order machine and computer terminal.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately.
Ability to perform simple bookkeeping entries.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to cooperate, work well, and get along with supervisors, co-workers, university community and the public.
Must be able to move packages up to 70 pounds.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent and typing test required. Prefer 40 wpm typing. Must be able to work flexible hours.
