Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in receiving the public coming into establishment and directing them accordingly, operating the central information telephone, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Answers telephone calls giving general information and numbers of various departments to callers.
Provides directions for visitors.
Updates and types university telephone listing.
Maintains simple reports.
Performs various clerical tasks as assigned.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of business telephone manners and techniques.
Knowledge of proper English usage.
Ability to operate a switchboard.
Ability to converse plainly and directly.
Ability to keep records and perform routine clerical tasks.
Ability to type accurately from rough draft and plain copy.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school.
