Definition
Employees in this class are under general direction. Work performed in responsibility for maintenance of campus grounds, streets, and walks and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises the overall maintenance of campus grounds, streets, and walks which includes grass cutting, trimming, pruning, and spraying shrubs and trees, planting flowers, patching streets and parking lots, painting parking lines, and installing traffic signs.
Receives work orders and plans and assigns duties.
Demonstrates proper methods of performing tasks when necessary.
Checks work in progress and when completed.
Trains new employees.
Requisitions supplies and tools.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in ground maintenance.
Knowledge of basic landscaping procedures.
Ability to plan a work schedule and assign duties.
Ability to direct and inspect the work of others.
Ability to demonstrate work methods when necessary.
Ability to maintain an adequate supply of supplies and tools.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in ground maintenance, landscaping or related area. Possession of a valid Tennessee operator's license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
