Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in providing responsible technical work in the preparation of design, layout, and art work and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Designs and constructs displays, visual aids, exhibits, and graphic-arts presentations.
Provides art work for instructor and student study guides, promotional materials and other publications.
Meets with clients to plan layout and design of projects.
Arranges drawings or photographs in well-balanced artistic layout, deciding physical arrangement of and size of type to be used for printed copy.
Maintains equipment.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and media of commercial art, of layout, design, and techniques of graphic presentation.
Knowledge of color harmony, balance, lettering, and freehand drawings.
Knowledge of the methods used to originate, design, and create illustrative exhibition materials.
Ability to design graphic arts and presentations.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public, and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in art. Experience in design and layout.
