Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in maintaining fiscal records of assigned grants and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains various fiscal records for assigned grants.
Analyzes grant expenditure accounts.
Prepares monthly comparative analysis expenditures to grant budget to assure that spending is within budget and guidelines.
Prepares quarterly and annual expenditure reports which are utilized by funding agency.
Prepares journal entries to adjust grant accounts.
Assists project directors on budget revision.
Closes out balances on accounts of expired grants.
Receives telephone calls, personal callers, and incoming mail, answers routine inquiries, and routes inquiries to proper person.
Performs typing and clerical work.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and methods of bookkeeping.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Knowledge of the application of bookkeeping principles to routine transactions.
Ability to direct the flow of a considerable volume of detailed work.
Ability to close books.
Ability to make arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public, and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping principles and practices. Experience in office work involving bookkeeping and accounting principles.
