Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in caring for farm livestock, crop production, and general farm work; assuming Farm Manager's duties in his absence, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Provides proper care of the dairy herd including feeding, milking, vaccinating, breeding and calf raising.
Uses necessary equipment in planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops such as corn and hay.
Repairs farm equipment and buildings requiring the use of basic electrical and carpentry tools and arc and gas welding equipment.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the proper care of farm livestock.
Knowledge of farm crop planting, cultivating, and harvesting.
Knowledge of the use of common hand tools and farm machinery and equipment.
Knowledge of artificial insemination of livestock.
Ability to provide the proper care for farm livestock.
Ability to use and care for hand tools and farm machinery and equipment.
Ability to direct the work of others as necessary.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Considerable farming experience.
