Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising and operating electronics shop and in electronics maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Provides maintenance and repair service on electronics systems.
Assigns work according to technician's skill and work load.
Diagnoses problems on more difficult jobs.
Reads and analyzes blueprints and schematics for information.
Inspects electronic systems for malfunctions and upkeep requirements.
Fabricates special purpose devices according to electronics principles and procedures.
Attends planning and information meetings.
Keeps records and files and completes logs, time sheets, work orders, etc.
Trains technicians.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to plan and supervise electronics shop activities.
Ability to inspect work for completeness and quality.
Ability to motivate employee work performance.
Ability to perform administrative activities.
Ability to operate machines and tools of the electronics trade.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent, vocational school certificate in electronics or completion of electronics apprenticeship, plus two years electronics experience or two years related experience (electrical engineering). Supervisory experience preferred.
