Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising employees in the Electrical Shop. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, organizes and schedules work.
Reads work orders, electrical schematics, specifications charts, etc.
Estimates costs, materials, man hours, etc.
Inspects work performed by subordinates.
Orders supplies and parts.
Originates and maintains various reports, forms, shop logs, records, files, etc.
Plans or designs systems for new construction or renovation as required.
Inspects systems for compliance with safety codes and standards.
Trains new workers.
Functions as electrician as necessary.
Uses special test equipment and common hand tools.
Drives truck as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to plan and supervise electrical shop activities.
Ability to inspect work for completeness and quality.
Ability to motivate employee work performance.
Ability to perform administrative activities.
Ability to operate machines and tools of the electrical trade.
Recommended Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent, vocational school certificate in electricity or completion of electrical apprenticeship, plus two years electrical experience or two years related experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
