Definition
Employees in this class are under close supervision. Work performed in preparing detailed drawings according to accepted drafting procedures and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares preliminary sketches illustrating proposed projects.
Prepares working drawings for approved projects which may include electrical, mechanical, architectural details, etc.
Prepares construction details of cabinets, shelves, etc., to be built by physical plant personnel.
Prepares campus maps showing locations of projects such as parking facilities, utilities, conduit layout, boundary and property lines, etc.
Checks existing blueprints for accuracy.
Submits detailed description of projects for cost estimate purposes.
Prepares a comprehensive list of steps involved in completing project.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of drafting methods, materials, and instruments.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Ability to prepare drafting sketches and detailed drawings.
Ability to perform map drafting.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in mechanical drawing or drafting. Some experience in general drafting work.
