Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in advising and assisting students, particularly in course selection for degree requirements, referring students as needed to more specialized counseling, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Interprets and explains policies and procedures to students.
Advises students of course requirements to fulfill degree or certificate programs.
Assists students in course selection.
Refers students to counselors for career and personal counseling.
Assists students in registration, drop/add, and withdrawal.
Maintains updated records of student files.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of organizational rules, regulations, and policies and procedures regarding student services.
Knowledge of degree and certification requirements.
Knowledge of the college's operation regarding student registration, drop/add, withdrawal, etc.
Ability to interpret degree and certification requirements, college policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Successful completion of two years of college, either at a four-year or two-year institution.
