Definition
Employees in this class perform routine Day Care tasks under general direction or supervision of the Day Care Director/Teacher of a facility involving 25 or less children.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in providing for the physical, safety and emotional well-being of a group of children housed in an on-campus day care facility.
Assist in drills concerning health, eating habits and social skills.
Read stories to children and carry out group discussions.
Help children in recreational activities, participate in games and give instruction to children involved in structured games or a variety of basic learning skills activities.
Oversee rest periods.
Set up visual, educational, art or other materials on bulletin boards, room displays, etc. on a periodic basis.
Assist in room clean up.
Shop for groceries and oversee snack periods.
Perform related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the basic elements of the Day Care Program.
Knowledge of basic creative play activities for small children.
Knowledge of a small child's physical and emotional needs.
Ability to respond in a calm and directed manner to a variety of situations.
Ability to maintain a good working rapport with children, students, or other employees of the Day Care Center.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Some experience in working with children is desirable.
