Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in evaluating transcripts of new, transfer and readmitted students interested in teacher education and certification and determining courses required for certification, executing administrative and clerical tasks and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Determines relevancy of previous credit work for certification and for institution's program.
Identifies students interested in teacher education.
Analyzes students' transcripts by determining courses required for certification.
Maintains knowledge of changing requirements and effect on enrolled students.
Handles correspondence relating to placement of student teachers.
Ensures determined requirements meet both institution and state guidelines.
Processes undergraduate applications for teacher certifications.
Assists in designing and revising forms.
Establishes and maintains individual files for teacher education, student teaching, and teacher certification.
May assemble materials, compose and type correspondence, reports and other materials, requiring application of statistical computations and computer programming.
Assists staff as required in making arrangements for meetings, scheduling appointments, etc.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of institution's catalog, course content, and guidelines for evaluating transcripts when transferring credit.
Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to teacher certification.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Knowledge of course requirements for teacher certification.
Knowledge of the procedures of organizing and writing administrative reports.
Ability to evaluate situations, make decisions, and interpret policies and procedures both orally and in written form.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
Ability to perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, public, and other employees.
Knowledge of basic statistical computations and computer programming.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school and successful completion of a minimum of two years of college. Experience in an increasingly responsible clerical or secretarial capacity. Familiarity with the rules and regulations of teacher certification.
