Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in processing the ordering of books, insuring book lists are accurate and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Receives applications for book changes from various departments; counts and researches each title to determine if unused books can be returned; lists all book titles that are to be returned.
Prepares coding forms showing additions or deletions of book titles and maintains current records of new editions and publishers.
Compiles lists of needed books and posts vital information from which quote lists are printed.
Orders books from used book companies and new books from publishers as needed.
Contacts department heads, computer center personnel and book publishers and companies as needed to coordinate the ordering of books.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the basic techniques and procedures involved in the ordering of books.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Ability to work independently on moderately difficult or complex clerical tasks.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and convincingly.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in moderately difficult to complex clerical tasks preferably in the ordering phase of a retail operation.
