Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in baking breads, cakes and similar items for a Cafeteria operation and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Bakes breads, rolls, cakes, pies, and desserts for a large Cafeteria according to production sheets.
Mixes batters and ensures proper baking time.
Receives and inspects bakery supplies for use in menu items.
May also cook for a portion of time.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of modern methods, materials and equipment used in food service.
Knowledge of modern baking techniques.
Knowledge with respect to health hazards in food preparation and precautionary measures.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Completion of the eighth grade. Experience as a baker in a food service operation. Applicants should possess a current health card issued by the County Health Department.
