Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in administrative duties within the maintenance department; supervising workers of a lower classification during the absence of the supervisor and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises and assists personnel engaged in cutting grass, trimming or pruning shrubs and trees, planting flowers, and a variety of other tasks associated with building maintenance and landscaping.
Performs work of a semi-skilled or unskilled nature when necessary.
Performs various clerical tasks.
Orders, receives, and processes maintenance equipment, mail, and other supplies.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of methods and principles of supervision.
Knowledge of materials and equipment used in building and ground maintenance work.
Ability to operate assigned equipment.
Ability to perform a variety of clerical tasks.
Ability to direct the work of others.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in typing. Considerable experience in building and grounds maintenance with some clerical and supervisory experience.
