I was born and raised in North Georgia, where I did most of my training and grew a love for the outdoors and rural communities. I received a BS in Biology at the University of North Georgia via the pre-medicine track where I discovered my passion for education as a biology lab teaching assistant. I received my MD and completed a General Surgery Internship at Mercer University School of Medicine, where I also served as an anatomy teaching assistant and eventually even faculty as an Instructor of Anatomy, confirming my true career path was to be in education. 

I joined the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine faculty as an assistant professor in 2011. I now serve Senior Director of Experiential Learning and OSCE Director where my responsibilities include supporting our experiential laboratories and programs, as well as the faculty and students who engage in the simulated sessions our teams host. My goal for the experiential team is to deliver a hi-tech, realistic clinical environment that promotes a safe space for learning with a focus on continuous improvement and development. Our experiential team includes faculty and staff across our human patient simulator laboratory, our simulation standardized patient program, and our anatomy and center for surgical innovation and teaching laboratories. 

Within the Quillen Medical Curriculum I currently teach in the Gross Anatomy Course and serve as the Transitions to Clinical Clerkships Component of Doctoring III Director, the Clinical Proficiency M3 OSCE Competency Director, and I direct multiple the fourth-year electives from online ethics to clinical anatomy subjects. In the new TRAILS Curriculum I will teach in the Foundations Course, I will serve as Director for the EQUAL Professional Immersion Course, Co-Director for the BRIDGE to Clinical Clerkships Course, OSCE Director, and continue directing M4 electives. 

My passions for community has been served at work through my position as Director of Community Engagement for the Interprofessional Education & Research Program and my involvement with our Office of Continuing Education for Healthcare Professionals. I enjoy developing need-based training opportunities for our regional providers. I also continue to find ways to engage and give back to our region through my service to local non-profit boards and community events, like directing the Blue Plum Community Festival and helping support the Crumley House Brain Rehabilitation fundraising efforts. In my free time I try to take advantage of our regional music and outdoor fun by always looking for a new adventure, with the most recent being taking my versa board on river floats and transitioning to snowboarding after a lifetime of skiing!
