Cary Daniel
Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal's Private Equity Services - Operations Group in Miami
Mr. Daniel has over 25 years of experience optimizing manufacturing, supply chain management and logistics operations for multi-billion dollar organizations. Mr. Daniel specializes in materials, distribution network optimization, manufacturing, sourcing, logistics, working capital reduction and lean implementation initiatives.
Currently, Mr. Daniel is interim GM for one of the largest testing laboratories for the aerospace & defense industry in North America. Charged with turning around the company’ s poorest performing site, Mr. Daniel has increased EBITDA from negative outcomes to beating forecast for the first time in over 2 years. EBITDA for 2022 is up 164% over 2021 levels. This facility sits on over 120 acres and encompasses environmental, explosive, thermal and vibratory testing.
Mr. Daniel served as the interim Senior VP of Supply Chain for a $2B fresh vegetable distributor. In this capacity, Mr. Daniel successfully brought on a 3PL dedicated provider for the organization’s new distribution center in PA, at more than $1.5M in annual savings. He successfully negotiated for new demand planning software that brought about more than $1M in annual savings through enhanced demand visibility. He also sourced and negotiated supply from a new packaging vendor offering enhanced pricing that produced annual savings of more than $1M.
Dan Glei
Executive VP Merchandising/Marketing
Dan Glei joined the Food City team in 2014, serving as Vice President of Center Store. Prior to that time, Glei served in a number of capacities for Ahold/Delhaize including Senior Vice President Merchandising, Senior Vice President Brand & Format Development and Senior Vice President E-commerce and held merchandising and sales management roles at Harris Teeter, Frito-Lay, and Glazers Southern Distributors. In his capacity as Vice President of Center Store, Glei was responsible for the oversight of all center store operations, supervision of the category management staff, space management team, grocery supervisors and coordination of the consumer product goods partners. In 2015, Glei was promoted to his current position of Executive Vice President of Merchandising/Marketing. He is responsible for the oversight of all merchandising, marketing, and procurement operations for the company’s 152 retail locations, including the management of field supervision, merchandising support, and leading the collaboration with consumer product goods partners. Glei holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing from Michigan State University. He also completed continuing education at Cornell and Harvard University. Glei serves as the Operations Committee Chair for Topco, Board of Directors for Alliance Foods, and as a Trustee for the Barter Theater, the State Theater of Virginia. He currently resides in Abingdon, Virginia with his lovely wife, Leigh. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Sarah who lives in Knoxville, TN.
Dr. Dana Harrison
Chair of the Department of Management, Marketing and Supply Chain
Dr. Dana E. Harrison is Chair of the Department of Marketing, the Director of MBA Programs and an Associate Professor of Marketing. Prior to her work in academia, Dr. Harrison spent many years assisting software companies and channel resellers with marketing and sales management. She earned her Bachelor of Science in public relations from Middle Tennessee State University. She holds a Master of Business Administration from East Tennessee State University and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Marketing from Kennesaw State University.
Gaith Husari, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Computing
Ghaith Husari is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Computing at East Tennessee State University. He has a Ph.D. in Data Analytics, and currently serves as the undergraduate coordinator of the department of computing at ETSU. He works on various projects that included deep learning, computer vision, cybersecurity and privacy, and big data analytics.
Matthew T. Jenkins, Ph.D.

Matthew T. Jenkins, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at East Tennessee State University. Dr. Jenkins received his Bachelor of Science in Logistics and Transportation, Master of Business Administration, and PhD in Supply Chain Management from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Jenkins’ primary research interests concern supply chain resource orchestration, supply chain digital transformation, cross-functional relationships, and supply chain risk and disruptive events. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Jenkins’ professional career involved working at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory / Department of Energy managing database systems, Pfizer Inc. where he led the development of business intelligence systems for North American Logistics, and Siemens Medical Solutions where he led the international supply chain management operations for the PETNET Solutions strategic business unit.
Dr. Kimberly McCorkle
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Kimberly McCorkle, who comes to ETSU from the University of West Florida where she served as Vice Provost and Professor for 19 years, is Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at ETSU. In her role as Vice Provost at UWF, McCorkle held responsibility for areas including academic program development, strategic planning, faculty development, accreditation, undergraduate research, student grievances, and compliance. She led efforts that resulted in new academic programs and recognition in performance-based funding models. McCorkle spent 15 years as a faculty member and administrator in UWF's College of Education and Professional Studies. She is a noted criminal justice scholar and author. McCorkle earned her B.A. in English from Louisiana State University, where she was selected for Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law. She practiced criminal law before joining UWF.
William McTier, MBA

The Entrepreneurial Supply Chain: Exploring Essential Supply Chain Elements for Startup Success
Bill McTier is a Senior Lecturer of Management, Marketing. and Supply Chain Management at the College of Business and Technology at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). He began his career at ETSU as an adjunct faculty member in 2012. Prior to his academic career, Bill launched his insurance and financial services business in 1987. The successful business thrived and grew for 23 years until McTier sold the agency in 2010. Additionally, Bill has owned a multi-media marketing business serving real estate and industry-affiliated professionals. He has also served as a small business consultant and worked in the banking industry. Bill’s teaching interests include entrepreneurship, small business management, and supply chain management. McTier holds a BS in Management from Tennessee Technological University and an MBA from ETSU.

Dwaine Raper is Director of the Manufacturing Extension Program at the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services(CIS), serving Tennessee manufacturing companies to help them improve performance and profitability, and grow. Dwaine is passionate about manufacturing and is a champion for manufacturing in the state. Before joining CIS in 2007, Dwaine gained 15 years of manufacturing operations and supply chain management experience with companies in the automotive and electronics industries. Dwaine holds two business degrees from East Tennessee State University (MBA and BBA). He also maintains three professional certifications; Certified Production and Inventory Manager (CPIM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), and Certified Public Manager (CPM).
Umit Saglam, Ph.D.

Driving Sustainable Productivity for the Brighter Future of Tennessee
Ümit Sağlam, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Department of Management and Supply Chain at East Tennessee State University. Dr. Sağlam received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Drexel University and his dual undergraduate degrees in the Honors Program in Mathematics and Economics from Istanbul Bilgi University and the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. His research projects focus on mathematical programming, energy economics and management, supply chain management, and behavioral operations management. Currently, he teaches analytical approaches for how to model and solve complex real-world business problems in his Decision Science and Production Operations Management courses. Dr. Sağlam has received the Faculty Excellence Award for Research (2018), the New Faculty Excellence Award (2018), and the Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching (2019) from the College of Business and Technology of East Tennessee State University.
