Clifford Koen, Professor of Business Law, is a licensed attorney and has been teaching at ETSU since 2009. He received his BBA, MS in Management, and JD degrees from Memphis State University. He previously served on the faculty at the University of New Orleans, Tulane University and the University of Memphis. For over 25 years, he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in employment law, business law, and human resource management. He has served as an arbitrator in commercial and labor disputes and as a consultant and corporate trainer on a variety of human resource topics including EEO legislation, sexual harassment, employee discipline, performance appraisal, and employment interviewing. Prior to beginning his career in academics and consulting, he had ten years of experience in human resource management in the health care and petroleum industries. He has published over 70 articles on various management and legal topics including sexual harassment, employee discipline, employment contracts and disability discrimination. He has received over a dozen awards for his teaching and research. He was recognized university wide for his contributions as a teacher while serving on the faculty at the University of New Orleans with his selection as a Seraphia D. Leyda University Teaching Fellow. He is a three-time recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching from the students of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society and was the recipient of the ETSU College of Business and Technology Outstanding New Faculty Award in 2011.
