Caught in the Crossfire: The Journey of Three Appalachian Families through the Civil War
Start Date: 4/21/2014 All Day
End Date: 6/13/2014

Event Description:

From 1861 to 1865, the United States found itself in the midst of the most violent and devastating war in the nation’s history. Many American soldiers and their families faced the horrors and destruction brought on by the War Between the States.

Like the rest of the nation, Appalachian families were not immune to the war as many men and boys went off to fight for the Union or the Confederacy. With artifacts from the Reece Museum’s permanent collection and the Archives of Appalachia, this exhibit offers a glimpse into the Civil War by following the military careers of three Appalachian families as they left their homes to take up arms for both the Union and the Confederacy.

A Reception will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Reece Museum.
