Audrey Altonen is a cellist and composer currently in her senior year of study toward a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance. She is an active musician in the area; holding a position in the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra since 2008 and in the Milligan Orchestra, as principal cellist, since 2012. She began her music studies at ETSU in 2011, studying cello with Mrs. Cherylonda Fitzgerald and composition with Dr. Maria Niederberger. Since then, she has composed original works for: solo cello, violin/cello duet, string trio, string quartet, and string orchestra. In January of this year, she earned the Kenton Coe Music Composition Award for two recent works written for string trio and string quartet. Her work has also been featured in several local independent films; she is currently the composer for the upcoming feature film “The Human Virus”, which will premiere at Real to Reel theatre on May 8th in Johnson City.
