Event Description
Laura Jordan Fundraising Recital

Laura Jordan, mezzo-soprano, has been selected as one of the twelve participants to perform in Casentino Voice Opera Program in Stia, Italy (outside Florence) July 24th-August 2nd.

While in Italy, Laura will be studying under internationally renowned soprano, Valerie Girard, who received her Masters degree at Juilliard School. She will also be studying under mezzo-soprano, Marian Bryfdir who resides and teaches voice in Whales. Laura will be attending master classes, diction coachings, stage coachings, private lessons, and acting classes all while broadening her knowledge of Italian culture. At the end of the program, Laura will be performing pieces she has worked on in a recital at the Castello di Porciano in the heart of Stia.

Laura Jordan, originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, began her love for singing at a very young age. While living in Charlotte, Laura was part of the Charlotte Children’s Choir, under direction of Ms. Sandy Holland. With the Choir, she toured the country and attended festivals such as the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. Ms. Jordan then moved to Johnson City, TN where she began high school. During this time, Laura was a member of the Women’s and Chamber Choir for three years. In Spring 2010, Laura won Superior Choral Soloist in the FiestaVal Competition at Universal Studios-Orlando, FL. Laura also performed a leading role in Cole Porter’s production of “Anything Goes” her senior year.

At ETSU, Laura studies with Mrs. Karen Smith. Ms. Jordan currently sings in the ETSU Chorale and had the privilege to tour with the Chorale in Austria and Hungary in 2011 under direction of Dr. Thomas Jenrette. In November of 2011, Laura was the alto soloist for the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in their performance of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Op. 80.

Laura is a member of the ETSU Opera Workshop. With the Opera Workshop, Ms. Jordan performed the role of Zita in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi in 2011 and performed the role of Giannetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore in February, 2013. Along with her involvement in the Opera Workshop, Laura has also performed the role of Seconda Sorella Cercatrice in Asheville Lyric Opera’s production of Suor Angelica. Laura will soon be performing the role of Maurya in ETSU Opera’s production of Riders to the Sea in April, 2014. Ms. Jordan plans to receive her Bachelor of Music in 2015 then continue with her graduate studies in Vocal Performance.

Laura is thrilled for this wonderful opportunity, but needs the help of her friends and fellow community. This recital is a fundraiser to help Laura successfully pay for tuition, housing, and travel. Admission is free with a suggested donation of the patron’s choice. Come enjoy a fun, laid-back recital of vocals and instrumentals from Laura and her Music Department friends!
