Event Description:

This workshop is designed for faculty researchers, trainees and students engaged in science-related research who are interested in pursuing funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF).  Participants will receive an overview of the organization’s structure and will learn how to identify the NSF’s scientific priorities in areas such as astronomy, geology, zoology, mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, including NSF’s support of "high-risk, high pay-off" ideas and novel collaborations.   Through the exploration of the NSF website, participants will learn how to find potential funding opportunities.  Time permitting, the instructors will discuss the proposal submission and peer review process.

The instructors for this workshop are Dr. William Duncan, Vice Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs and Dr. Louise Nuttle, Assistant Vice President for Research and Director of Sponsored Programs.  Dr. Duncan spent 17 years at the NIH in a variety of positions including program officer, and both Deputy and Acting Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
