Powell Piano Series

Guest Artist:  Phillip Bush

Program:

Beethoven: Sonata in C Major, Op. 53, "Waldstein"

Phillip Bush is a pianist of uncommon versatility, with a repertoire extending from the 16th century to the 21st. He has appeared as recitalist throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. In 2001 he made his Carnegie Hall concerto debut to critical acclaim, replacing an ailing Peter Serkin on short notice in concerti by Stravinsky and Alexander Goehr.

A fierce advocate for contemporary music, Phillip Bush has performed with many of the New York area's most renowned new music ensembles, and for over two decades with the ensembles of composers Philip Glass and Steve Reich. His discography has now reached forty recordings, on labels such as Sony, Virgin Classics, Koch International, and many others. He is currently on the faculty of University of South Carolina.
