Fisk Jubilee Singers
Start Date: 3/26/2013Start Time: 7:30 PM
End Date: 3/26/2013

Event Description:
A 2008 recipient of the National Medal of Arts, the Fisk Jubilee Singers are preserving a unique American musical tradition known today as Negro spirituals. An a cappella ensemble, the original Jubilee Singers introduced ‘slave songs’ to the world in 1871. “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” was recorded by the Fisk Jubilee Singers in 1909, and, in 2002, the Library of Congress honored the recording by adding it to the National Recording Registry. Today’s ensemble consists of vocal artists and students at Fisk University in Nashville. David Crocket High School’s Madrigal Singers are included in the concert as special guests.
