Tatum Spears
is a junior vocal performance major at ETSU. Originally from Weber City, Virginia, Spears began singing choral music as a junior at Volunteer High School, Church Hill, where she graduated in 2010. She was a member of the Tennessee All-East Choir in 2008 and 2009, and the Tennessee All-State Choir in 2009. She started studying solo vocal repertoire upon her arrival at ETSU, where she has studied under Rachel Ellison and is now studying under Dr. Sun-Joo Oh. She enjoys being in stage productions of the operatic and musical theatre variety. She has starred in three productions of Seussical! the Musical and appeared in Jonesborough Repertory Theatre’s Hairspray. Her favorite roles are from her experiences in ETSU’s Opera Workshop. She appeared as Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Mabel in excerpts of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, and most recently starred as Adina in Donizetti’s Elixir of Love. Upon graduating, Spears plans to audition for prestigious graduate schools across the country to pursue a career as an opera performer.
