Matthew Brickey Half Recital
A native of Kingsport TN, Matthew Brickey is a senior at East Tennessee State University, studying piano and vocal music education. Matthew began piano studies at the age of seven and is currently a student of Chih-Long Hu. At ETSU he has studied voice with Thomas Jenrette and Karen Smith and organ with Jennifer Marshall.
In addition to piano, voice and organ studies, Matthew was a member of the ETSU Chorale and also accompanied music students and the Bucs Worth ensembles. His involvement with these groups provided him the opportunity to perform all over the world in places such as New York City, London, and cities in Austria, Hungary, and Costa Rica.
The recipient of many awards, Matthew was selected as the accompanist two consecutive years for the All East Tennessee Honor Choirs (2008-09) and received superior ratings in the East TN Regional Piano Festivals as well. In 2011, Matthew competed in the Tennessee Music Teachers Association Collegiate Piano Competition and received 1st place in the state. His most recent achievement was being selected as the runner-up for the state round of in Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Piano Competition. Matthew has had the privilege to perform in master classes by Jerilyn Paolini, Benjamin Caton, Alexander Peskanov, Lynn Rice-See, Tai-Cheng Chen, Chu-Fang Huang, Valentina Lisitsa and The 5 Browns. Matthew is a collegiate member of the National Association for Music Education (NAFME) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). In addition to his studies at ETSU, Matthew teaches piano and holds the position of Church Music Director at West View Baptist Church in Kingsport.
Upon graduation from ETSU, Matthew plans to teach music and further his education by pursuing master’s and doctorate degrees in music. |
