Event Description: Terminator, Matrix and Star Wars: How (far) will robots develop in our lifetime?
One of the key problems of our today's appliances is their lack of adaptability to novel situations and environmental changes. Today it is still hard to imagine that our cars will develop their "own thoughts" and do not simply execute all our driving commands, but they will also contribute. A similar process can be observed in robotics, where devices become more and more autonomous and adaptive. I will show how modular robotics allows robots to reconfigure themselves to change their shape, how evolving robots change their behavior as the environment demands for such a change and how
"smart materials" allow even further-reaching adaptation and learning. |
