Event Description:

This workshop is designed for faculty researchers, trainees and students engaged in health-related research who are interested in pursuing funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Participants will receive an overview of the organization’s structure and the individual centers and institutes that make up the NIH.  Through the exploration of the NIH website, participants will learn how to identify the scientific priorities of each center and institute and find potential funding opportunities.  The instructors will discuss the difference between solicited and unsolicited grant opportunities, RFA’s, RFP’s and program announcements, and the standard grant mechanisms used across the NIH (R01, R15, R25, T32, U01, etc).  Time permitting, the instructors will discuss the proposal submission and peer review process.

The instructors for this workshop include Dr. William Duncan, Vice Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs.  Dr. Duncan spent 17 years at the NIH in a variety of positions including program officer, and both Deputy and Acting Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).  He will be joined by Dr. Louise Nuttle, Assistant Vice President for Research and Director of Sponsored Programs.
