Seminar Title: "Quantum Walks"

Abstract:  The universal quantum computer is expected to be a device capable of simulating any physical system. Simulations of classical systems on classical computers are done routinely. Simulation of quantum systems on classical computers is a challenging task. Feynman recognized this in 1982. It is believed that quantum systems admit efficient simulations only by using quantum computers. They can be of two types: digital and analog. In the last case it is expected that there is a direct mapping between the state and dynamics of simulated system and that of the simulator. In this talk we discuss the case of the Dirac propagator which was recently analog simulated using single trapped ion. Some time ago in a series of papers we demonstrated that conformational properties of semiflexible polymers are also described with help of the Dirac propagator. Researchers in the field of quantum computers are not familiar with statistics of semiflexible polymers while those who work in polymer physics do not know about quantum computers. This talk is aimed at improving communication between researchers in both fields.
